ATTENTION ALL TRAVELLERS!!!
Are you ready for the digital reception? Do you have a digital TV or a digital set-top box?
I’m sure that by now most travellers have done the conversion to a DIGITAL TV or have added a digital set-top box to their older ‘analogue’ TV. As of the end of this year (2012), digital TV reception will be in all regional areas of Qld, NSW, Vic and SA. All capital cities, Tasmania, NT and WA will have the analogue reception discontinued by the end of 2013.
If you are considering “doing the LAP” or are part the way around this wonderful country and are not sure if you have the correct gear, give us a call on 1800 443 471. Make sure you know what brand TV you have so we can talk you through the process of finding out if you have a digital TV. We haven’t seen ALL brands but we can certainly go through the basic process that all TVs have.
As for the correct antenna for digital reception, any antenna will receive the digital signal. BUT how good is it? Will it break up with any interference that comes its way – from mobile phones, fluorescent lights, microwaves, etc.? The correct equipment for digital (the one that has the least interference) has these components:-
- Digital amplifier (with “F” connections)
- Power supplies with the “F” connectors
- RG6 quad shield cable
- “F” connectors (they screw on) on both ends of the cable
- “F” connected wall plates
I put the ‘digital amplifier’ at the top of the list because some caravan antennas that sell the amplifier as an ‘added extra’ are still using the old ‘saddle and clamp’ method of attaching the cable to the amplifier. This old method was fine for the ‘ribbon cable’ way back when. But the digital “F” connectors are far more efficient with blocking interference and therefore recognised as the proper digital amplifier.
And how does the Saturn Antenna stack up? We have used a digital amplifier, plugs and cables since 2001. You can be assured that we are using all the best parts available.
